Exciting
young pianist Anna Klein is gaining recognition
as an engaging and sensitive, yet powerful soloist. She has established
a reputation as an artist who connects with the audience. With varied
and appealing programs, Anna is equally well received by music enthusiasts
and professionals, young and old alike.
Following
her New York solo debut in 2002 at Weill Carnegie Recital Hall,
Anna has toured extensively as solo recitalist throughout the United
States, Australia, and New Zealand. In addition, she has given performances
in South America, Fiji and the Marshall Islands. Anna made her orchestral
debut with the Webster University Symphony, performing concerti
by Haydn and Beethoven.
Anna
has appeared for United States Embassies on behalf of the State
Department as a freelance performing artist to promote cultural
and mutual understanding through the arts. As such, she has performed
for ambassadors, diplomats, dignitaries, military personnel, and
international audiences.
Anna’s
quick wit and vivacious personality make her an entertaining and
welcome guest for television and radio appearances. She has been
interviewed by classical, talk, and community format radio stations,
and was featured on a New Jersey cable syndicated television program.
Recently, her solo performance in Majuro at the Parliament House
was broadcast live throughout the Marshall Islands.
A
devoted chamber musician, Anna has performed as collaborative pianist
with groups at Bargemusic in Brooklyn, Indiana University in Bloomington,
the University of Texas at Austin, and has given concerts in the
greater metropolitan areas of Detroit, St. Louis, and Cincinnati.
Dedicated
to educational outreach, Anna continues to perform, and present
master classes at conservatories, universities, elementary, and
high schools. Her constructive insights encourage and inspire piano
students and teachers. Anna has donated performances and time in
support of the Andrew George DeGrado Foundation, the Sassa Maniotis
Scholarship at Manhattan School of Music and La Clinica Latino Health
Centers.
A
native of St. Louis, Missouri, Anna began piano studies at the age
of four when she requested lessons and pierced ears for her birthday.
(She got both!) As a teenager, she was a semi-finalist in the Stravinsky
International Piano Competition and was the recipient of the Hesse
Memorial Scholarship. Anna received a Bachelor of Music degree from
the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in piano performance.
As a student of Andrew DeGrado, Anna was a finalist in the Kankakee
Concerto Competition, the St. Louis Artist Presentation Society
Awards, and was selected to compete in the World Piano Competition.
She participated and performed at the Van Cliburn Summer Institute
and the Aspen Music Festival. Anna graduated with a Master of Music
degree in piano performance from Manhattan School of Music, where
she studied with Jeffrey Cohen.
Currently,
Anna resides in St. Louis.
